DAY ONE (August 04, 2022)
The medical outreach in Ikom took place at the Civic Centre in Ikom. There was no partnering organization here and the team members who were out of town were sponsored by KHMI. Eighty-three people received consultation and treatment on the first day of the outreach in Ikom due to inadequate sensitization of the refugees. The medical conditions seen on this day included urinary tract infection, allergies, gastritis/gastric ulcer, malaria, typhoid, chlamydia and gonorrhea, hypertension and diabetes.
DAY TWO (August 05, 2022)
A population of about 258 people received consultation on the second day of the medical outreach in Ikom. The health conditions seen on this day included vision problems (referred), HIV (referred), malaria, typhoid, hydrocephalus (referred), elephantiasis (referred) and cases requiring minor surgery were identified (ovarian cysts, dermoid cysts, inguinal hernia). Only two providers were available that day, requiring the need to search for the assistance of 2 nurse consultants by the end of the day.
DAY THREE (August 06, 2022) On the third day of the medical outreach in Ikom approximately 286 people received consultations and treatments and 8 minor surgeries were performed. The minor surgeries performed were removal of ovarian cysts, inguinal hernia repair and removal of dermoid cysts.
Conclusion
The total number of people that KHMI attended to in Ikom were 527 people with medical conditions and surgical conditions as reported above. Here children were also not counted and families were reported as a single unit.
