After the Jalingo medical outreach organized by KHMI, the team went to Gembu-Sarduana Local Government Area of Nigeria. The medical outreach in Gembu was hosted by the Mambila Baptist Convention, another organization partnering with KHMI in Nigeria. The medical outreach was held at the Mambila Baptist Hospital for 3 days.
DAY ONE (July 30, 2022)
On the first day of the medical outreach in Gembu, a total of about 186 people received consultations, testing and medications. The people seen here were mostly Cameroonian refugees with a few members from the local community. The medical conditions seen on this day included skin rashes, allergic reactions, filariasis, malaria, typhoid, HIV, diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, brain tumor, urinary tract infections, hepatitis B and C.
DAY TWO (August 01, 2022)
A total of approximately 342 people were consulted and treated or referred with medical conditions such as tuberculosis, dental problems (referred), vision problems (referred), malaria, typhoid, gastritis/gastric ulcer, hypertension, and diabetes.
DAY THREE (August 02, 2022)
A total of about 156 people received consultations on this last day of the outreach in Gembu and health conditions seen included high blood pressure, diabetes, gastritis/gastric ulcer, and malaria and typhoid and various types of skin infections, and scoliosis.
Conclusion
KHMI attended to over 684 persons during the free medical outreach in Gembu. Among these people, diabetes, high blood pressure, gastritis/gastric ulcer and Hepatitis B and C were common in Gembu among the natives as well as the refugees. Here families were also seen as a unit and children who received care were not all counted.
